The ‘best of the best’ Automotive Retailers celebrated at the 18th Autotrader Retailer Awards at London’s iconic Leadenhall Building,

Now in its 18th year, the Awards celebrate the very best in automotive retailing; those brands that are pushing the standard of all aspects of the car buying experience.

With nearly 150 retailers attending the ceremony, the building was full of applause as the 29 winners lifted trophies in recognition for their exceptional customer service, digital excellence, innovation, commitment to sustainability, and for successfully adapting to the challenges of today’s fast- moving market.

And with less than 1% of our circa 14,000 retailer partners recognised for their retailing excellence, both the winners and finalists have joined one of the industry’s most exclusive clubs.

The Awards recognise the top performing automotive retailers across nine different categories, of which four are data-based, assessed either by detailed analysis of millions of data points, or in the case of the Customer Experience Award, one of the largest mystery shopping exercises of its type. For that category, around 1,250 of our best performing car and van retailers were gradually whittled down to just six deserving winners: GBI Cars, Norman Motors (Bournemouth), and Vertu Motors in the car category, along with MD Vehicles, Baxter & Simpson Heritage, and Lookers Motor Group in the van.

Now, our Awards are a genuine highlight for us in the calendar as it’s a unique and privileged opportunity to recognise and to celebrate the very best in automotive retailing. And that is exactly what every one of this year’s finalists and winners represent. Winning a Retailer Award is tough. Our judging process is completely independent, it’s unbiased, and it’s data and fact based. So, to be a finalist, let alone one of just a small handful of winners, is a huge achievement, and thoroughly well-deserved by all of this year’s exceptional retailers. So a huge congratulations to all – we’re already looking forward to next year’s Awards.

Double Cab Pick-Ups from April 2025

For a large majority of buyers nothing has changed, Road Tax remains the same still classed as a Commercial Vehicle costing only £345 on new and used for the year and Commercial Vehicle VAT status remains the same on New and Used where applicable.

For the Farmer, Sole Trader, Leisure and Lifestyle Users these vehicles are the only practical affordable option allowing Driver and Passengers to be comfortable separate from the load area and the ability to tow up to 3.5 Tons. With the added attribute of 4WD high ground clearance and their off-road capability putting these rugged durable vehicles in a class of their own representing fantastic value in comparison to high priced unsuitable SUV’s.

What has changed for the company car driver is the Benefit In Kind commonly termed as BIK when purchased after the 6^th of April 2025 they will be taxed for that benefit at a higher rate as if a Car. Those driving vehicles before that date have grandfather wrights until April 2029, so some of these users only may have to have a rethink. This does not effect an individual if the Double Cab Pick-Up is required in a company as a pooled vehicle to help with its general transportation needs during the working day.

The other Change is to the Capital Allowance for businesses but is not a reason alone not to purchase when such vehicles are required. Effectively the Double Cab Pick-Up becomes a Goods Vehicle, Commercial for Road Tax and VAT and Car for BIK and Capital Allowance. Two door Single Cab Pickups are not effected by any changes.
